If you need to make a claim, you then realise why they are so cheap. A council vehicle hit our parked car and drove off, lucky we had several witnesses, seemed like a straightforward case. Contacting By Miles we were advised to go to a third party called Accidents Happen. Since we have never claimed on insurance before, we took their advice. Accidents Happen then requested we do all of the leg work, get quotes, contacts witnesses, etc. This was all done and we submitted the information, only to be told, after several weeks, that they could not help us. So back to By Miles.
By Miles then sent around someone to assess the damage on the car who informed us that they will take care of it and a courtesy car would be sent over and they would arrange collection. Eventually, the date arrived for the repair, and after several hours, no word. By Miles assured us it was still going ahead, however we also contacted the garage directly who were doing the repair, who were confused as they assumed we would drive the car there and that no courtesy car would be supplied. They also claimed that they were surprised that they were going to go with the repair, as in their words, the cost was £2200 which was more than the value of the car, and that we needed to be sure that the cost of the repair was going to be picked up…..no idea why we should be responsible for this. To top it off, they had no idea how long the repair would take.
At the end of this, and several months, we basically gave up and paid for the repair ourselves, our local garage was a fair bit cheaper and far more convenient.
We did receive a telephone apology; words are cheap.
